This past legislative session, I was proud to sponsor Constitutional Carry legislation, allowing every law-abiding citizen in the State of Maine to exercise our most basic 2nd Amendment rights without government interference.
This effort has been 20 years in the making, and we finally passed it into law with the support of both Republicans and Democrats. I could not be prouder to have lead this effort.
Of course, taking any bold stance for our constitutional rights does not make everyone happy. As Winston Churchill once said, "You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
Gun-grabber Michael Bloomberg and his allies---after spending tens of thousands of out-of-state money to stop Mainers from exercising our 2nd Amendment freedoms---are certainly not happy.
By leading the charge for constitutional carry, I now have a bigger target on my back with the anti-gun crowd than ever before.
That's okay, because as we all know, the anti-gun crowd doesn't know how to shoot a target... but they do have a ton money to flood into our state yet again as we recently saw with the bear referendum.
I represent one of most volatile swing districts in Maine, and it means nothing to Michael Bloomberg to write a $100,000 check to try to get rid of me.
If I am going to continue fighting in Augusta for our 2nd Amendment rights, I need your support to keep me there.
While the gun-grabbers lost this battle on constitutional cary, they are not surrendering the war.
Already, they have begun efforts to register all Maine gun owners through the guise of "universal background checks" in a planned referendum for 2016. Add to this, plans for a legislative effort to register all Mainers who already own and possess firearms.
We have won a decisive victory in protecting our 2nd Amendment, and in their desperation, the gun-grabbers are beginning a full assault against this single right that protects all other rights.
I will continue to lead from the front in my defense of the 2nd Amendment, but I need your help to cover my back.
Thank you for all you do. I couldn't do this without your support.
Senator Eric Brakey
Maine Senate District 20
P.S. We finally passed Constitutional Carry here in the state of Maine, and I was proud to lead the charge.
Now, the gun grabbers are hatching their plans to make sure I don't return to the State Senate during this next campaign. I am going to need your help to stand up to them.
